Deerfield Academy is holding a special concert called "Delhi To Damascus Concert - Transcending borders one note at a time" with Grammy-winning performers Sandeep Das (Tabla), Rajib Karmakar (Sitar) and Issam Rafea (Oud).
Delhi to Damascus is a celebration of the historical and cultural ties between India and Syria. The two countries have a deep connection that dates back to 130 BCE when they were integral to the legendary Silk Road. This connection facilitated a vibrant cultural, linguistic and musical exchange as witnessed in their common Sufi music tradition and the ancient Indo-Iranian and Indo-European Sanskrit language that was used in Hindu Vedas but originated from Syria and traveled to India.
Deerfield will have a Food Bank of Western Massachusetts information table at a concert with handouts about The Food Bank’s programs and efforts. We need one volunteer to deliver the materials and table this event, by passing out information and talking about The Food Bank. Volunteers would set up from 3:00 pm - 3:30 pm and clean up from 4:30-5pm. The volunteer would need to pick up materials at The Food Bank prior to the event and drop off materials sometime the week after the event.
The concert will take place 3:30pm - 4:30 pm in the Hess Arts Center Concert Hall on the Deerfield Academy campus.
